Menopause and Skin: Facials That Actually Help

menopausemature skinfacialsanti-ageingamesburysalisbury

If you are reading this, the chances are something has changed about your skin in the last few years and the products that used to work no longer do. You are not imagining it. Perimenopause and menopause cause real, measurable shifts in the skin — and most of the standard advice you will read online does not address them honestly.

This is the guide I wish more women had access to before they started spending money on serums that were never going to fix the problem. We will go through what is actually happening, why your skin feels different, and the four facial protocols I genuinely recommend for clients in this stage of life.

What is happening to your skin

The drop in oestrogen during perimenopause and menopause affects skin in three measurable ways:

  • Collagen falls fast. Collagen is the structural protein that keeps skin firm, plump, and resistant to fine lines, and the skin loses it more quickly once oestrogen drops.
  • Hyaluronic acid declines. The skin's natural reservoir of hydration shrinks. Skin starts to feel tight, look dull, and show creases that were not there before — even when you are perfectly hydrated internally.
  • Cell turnover slows. The 28-day renewal cycle that kept skin glowing in your thirties can stretch to 45 or 60 days. Dead cells linger longer, dulling tone and texture.

The skin is also more reactive. Hot flushes can trigger flushing or rosacea. Fragrances and active ingredients that never bothered you before suddenly cause stinging. Many women find their skin can no longer tolerate the strong retinols or acids that worked in their forties.

This is not a failure of your skincare routine. It is a hormonal shift that requires a different strategy.

What does not work

Before the recommendations, a quick honest list of what is generally a waste of money:

  • More aggressive at-home actives. Throwing stronger retinol or acids at compromised, reactive skin usually backfires. The barrier is already struggling; aggravating it deepens the problem.
  • Single-session "miracle" peels. Anyone selling you one treatment that will reverse menopausal skin is selling you a fairytale. What works is consistent, layered, in-clinic support combined with a barrier-friendly home routine.
  • Filler-as-default. Filler has its place, but it is often offered to women whose underlying skin quality is the actual issue. Address the skin first; you may not need the filler.

The four facial protocols I recommend

Each of these targets a different aspect of the menopausal skin shift.

1. The MesoGlow — for hydration loss

No-needle mesotherapy that uses electroporation to push hyaluronic acid, peptides, vitamins and minerals deeper into the dermis than topical products can reach. This is the protocol I reach for first when a client tells me her skin "drinks moisturiser and stays thirsty." 60 minutes, £90.

2. Anti Ageing Facial — for collagen loss and slack

Bi-polar radiofrequency thermal stimulation combined with vacuum sculpting. RF gently heats the deeper layers of the skin, prompting the body to produce new collagen over the following weeks. This is the closest non-invasive equivalent to a "lift" and the one I recommend for women noticing softening along the jaw, cheeks, or neck. 60 minutes, £90.

3. The Million Dollar Miracle Mask Facial — for event-ready firming

Peptide technology that delivers visible firming and brightening with results that peak around 72 hours after the treatment. This is the one to book three days before a wedding, a milestone birthday, or any occasion where you want photographs you genuinely like. 60 minutes, £60.

4. The Signature Facial — for the full reset

A 90-minute multi-modality protocol that combines HydroDiamond exfoliation, RF, electroporation, oxygen therapy, DermeBoost and cold therapy in a single session. This is the one I recommend for the seasonal reset — typically a couple of times a year — when you want everything addressed in one appointment. 90 minutes, £120.

Where to start

If you are new to facials and unsure, I would book the MesoGlow first. Hydration is the foundation; without it, nothing else holds. Once you can see what genuine, deep hydration does to the skin, you can layer in radiofrequency for firmness or peptides for events.

If you have specific concerns about lymphatic drainage and puffiness (often worse during perimenopause), or lifting and contour, those concern pages curate the relevant treatments together.

What to expect from a course

Realistic expectations matter. A single facial cannot reverse five years of collagen loss. Change comes from a course of four to six sessions over two to three months, paired with a barrier-supportive home routine. Hydration improves first (you will feel it within a week). Tone and luminosity follow within a month. Firmness is the slowest to shift but the most rewarding when it does.

I do not believe in selling courses up front. Come for one treatment, see how your skin responds, and we will plan from there. Every client is different and every menopausal skin tells a different story.

Booking from across Wiltshire and Hampshire

Eternal Glow Beauty is a private luxury salon in Amesbury, easily reached from Salisbury, Andover, Downton, and across the areas we serve. You will not be rushed, and the consultation at the start of every appointment is the most important part of what I do — particularly for women in this stage of life.

You can contact us to book or to ask questions before committing. If you want to do that informally first, that is genuinely fine. The right facial only works if it is the right facial for you — and that conversation is the place to start.
