Ozempic Face: Restoring Volume and Glow After GLP-1 Weight Loss

If you have lost a significant amount of weight in the last year on Ozempic, Mounjaro or one of the other GLP-1 medications, the chances are something has changed about your face — and not necessarily in the direction you expected.

You are losing the weight. The numbers on the scale are doing exactly what they were meant to. But you are also looking in the mirror and seeing hollows where your cheeks used to sit, a softer jawline, lips that feel thinner, and skin around your eyes that suddenly looks tired. You are not imagining it. The phenomenon has a name — "Ozempic face" — and it is one of the most-talked-about consequences of the rapid GLP-1 weight loss revolution sweeping the UK.

This is the guide I wish more women had access to before they noticed the change. We will go through what is actually happening to your skin, why it happens faster than people expect, what the published clinical evidence says about treatment, and the non-surgical facial protocols I genuinely recommend at Eternal Glow Beauty for clients in this stage.

I want to be clear at the start. I am a beauty therapist, not a clinician. I am not going to tell you anything about the medication itself, whether to take it, when to come off, or how to manage your weight. That conversation is between you and your GP. What I can tell you about — with quiet confidence — is what advanced beauty therapy can do for the skin changes the medication leaves behind.

What "Ozempic face" actually is

The term "Ozempic face" is shorthand for a pattern of facial changes that researchers are now seeing routinely in patients on GLP-1 receptor agonists — semaglutide (sold as Ozempic and Wegovy) and tirzepatide (sold as Mounjaro). A 2024 systematic review of GLP-1-mediated weight loss and facial appearance described the pattern as "exaggerated volume loss from semaglutide therapy, resulting in advanced facial ageing." In plain English: hollowed cheeks, deepened nasolabial folds, sagging skin around the jaw and neck, and an overall appearance that can age someone by a decade in a matter of months.

It is not a side effect of the medication itself. It is a side effect of the speed at which the weight is coming off — and it is increasingly common because the scale of GLP-1 use in the UK has exploded.

The Health Foundation reports that an estimated 1.6 million UK adults used a GLP-1 medication for weight management between early 2024 and early 2025, with around 4.9 million either having recently used one or planning to in the near future. Roughly four in five of those people are on Mounjaro, and almost 80% are women — with usage peaking in the 45–55 age group. That is the demographic most likely to be asking the same question. Why does my face look so different?

Why it happens — the three mechanisms

There are three things going on under the surface of the skin, and only one of them is what you would expect.

1. Fat is leaving the face. Subcutaneous fat is what gives the cheeks their roundness and the jawline its softness. When you lose body fat anywhere — quickly — the face is one of the first places it shows. With GLP-1 weight loss, the rate is the issue. Skin that loses 8–10 kilograms of supportive fat over twelve months has time to retract. Skin that loses the same amount in three or four months does not.

2. Collagen and elastin are dropping at the same time. Rapid weight loss triggers a measurable decline in two of the proteins that hold the face up — elastin, which gives skin its stretch and snap-back, and collagen, which gives it structure. Without both, the skin no longer has the framework to follow the face's new contours. It hangs.

3. The medication itself may affect skin cells directly. This is the newest finding. Recent research suggests GLP-1 receptors are present on the skin's fibroblasts (the cells that produce collagen) and on adipose-derived stem cells. When those receptors are activated by GLP-1 medications, fibroblast activity may slow — meaning the body is less able to rebuild what is being lost. This is biology, not bad luck.

The combination is what produces the look. You are losing volume, losing structural support, and the body's repair mechanism is being slowed at the same time. No moisturiser is going to fix that. Honest skincare advice has to start with that admission.

The five changes you might recognise

These are the five changes GLP-1 weight loss tends to bring.

  • Hollowing under the cheekbones. The cheek pad has shrunk, and the bone structure suddenly looks more pronounced — sometimes welcome, often not.
  • A softer jawline. Definition along the lower face has gone. The line that used to cut cleanly from ear to chin now has slack in it.
  • Deeper lines around the mouth. The nasolabial folds have deepened, and small vertical lines around the lips look more visible.
  • A flatter top lip. Lip volume has decreased, and the cupid's bow has lost some of its definition.
  • Tired, hollow-looking eyes. Under-eye shadowing has darkened, and the upper-eyelid area looks heavier.

If you recognise three or more of those, you are dealing with classic GLP-1 facial volume loss. The good news is that all five of them respond to non-surgical treatment when the right protocols are used.

What the clinical evidence says about treatment

Three modalities have published clinical research behind them for restoring skin quality after weight loss. They map onto exactly the treatments I have on my menu.

Radiofrequency for skin tightening. A 2017 study published in the National Library of Medicine archive found that monopolar radiofrequency produced a statistically significant increase in Type I and Type III collagen in treated skin, with new collagen synthesis still measurable three months after the final session. RF works by delivering controlled heat to the dermis, which contracts existing collagen fibres immediately and prompts the skin to lay down new collagen over the following weeks. It is the closest non-invasive equivalent to a "lift," and the strongest single intervention for the slack jawline and softer cheek that come with rapid weight loss.

No-needle mesotherapy (electroporation). This delivers customised serums — hyaluronic acid, peptides, vitamins, antioxidants — into the deeper layers of the skin without injections. It is the most effective tool I know of for restoring the surface plumpness that GLP-1 weight loss strips away.

Hydradermabrasion with oxygen infusion. A two-step approach: clearing dehydrated, dulled skin away with a fluid resurfacing pass, then flooding the cleared dermis with hyaluronic acid and oxygen. This is the protocol that makes skin look photograph-ready inside an hour, and the one I reach for first when a client tells me their face has lost its glow.

I do not offer dermal fillers, biostimulators, or anything injectable. Those are clinical treatments with a real role in post-GLP-1 care, and you may want to discuss them with a qualified medical aesthetician separately. What I offer is the skin-quality side of the equation.

The four treatments I recommend at Eternal Glow Beauty

Each of these targets a specific aspect of GLP-1 facial change, and two or three of them can be rotated across a treatment course.

1. Anti Ageing Facial — for the slack jaw and cheek

Sixty minutes, £90. HydroDiamond resurfacing, then bi-polar radiofrequency thermal stimulation combined with vacuum contouring. RF gently heats the deeper layers of the dermis, contracting existing collagen and prompting new collagen synthesis over the following weeks. Cold therapy at the end firms the surface and calms any redness. This is the protocol I recommend first to clients who have lost more than 10% of their body weight on a GLP-1 and noticed jawline softening or cheek hollowing.

2. The MesoGlow — for hydration loss and surface plumpness

Seventy-five minutes, £90. No-needle mesotherapy using electroporation to push hyaluronic acid, peptides and antioxidants deeper than topical products can reach. Fast weight loss leaves skin feeling thinner and drier than it should — this is the treatment that brings the bounce back. I usually pair it with the Anti Ageing Facial on alternating sessions.

3. Lip & Eye Treatments — for lost lip volume and tired-looking eyes

Sixty minutes, £90. Targeted needle-free DermeBoost micro-infusions of hydrating serums, delivered as a focused hour on either the lips (The Lip Plump) or the eyes (The Eye Lift). The lip ritual plumps, smooths, and softens the lines around the mouth that GLP-1 weight loss tends to deepen — a non-invasive alternative to lip filler when what you actually want is hydration and definition rather than added volume. The eye ritual targets the under-eye area, where post-weight-loss hollowing tends to be most visible — brightening dark circles, reducing puffiness, and softening crow's feet. It is where I would start if your primary concern is "I look tired all the time now."

4. The Signature Facial — for the full reset

Ninety minutes, £120. The most comprehensive protocol on the menu — HydroDiamond exfoliation, RF, electroporation, oxygen therapy, DermeBoost for the eyes and lips, and cold therapy in a single session. This is the seasonal reset I recommend two or three times a year for clients on a maintenance journey, and the one I would book before a milestone event.

A suggested treatment sequence

If you are coming to this fresh — six to twelve months into a weight loss journey, noticing changes, not sure where to start — here is the sequence I would typically recommend.

  • Sessions 1 and 2: the Anti Ageing Facial, two weeks apart. RF builds on itself; the first two sessions establish the collagen response.
  • Session 3: The MesoGlow two weeks after Session 2. By this point the deeper structural work is underway and the skin is ready for hydration to land properly.
  • Session 4: Lip & Eye Treatments — the eye ritual or the lip ritual, whichever feature you want to address most.
  • Maintenance from there: one Anti Ageing Facial every 6–8 weeks; one MesoGlow every 4–6 weeks; one Signature Facial every 12–16 weeks for the full reset.

This is a guide, not a prescription. Every face responds differently, and the consultation at the start of every appointment is where we adapt.

What I do not promise

I am not going to tell you a single facial will reverse twelve months of GLP-1 weight loss. It will not. The skin took six months to change; it will take three or four months of consistent treatment to settle into its new shape.

I will not push you towards filler or biostimulators. If we sit down together and decide your face needs structural volume that beauty therapy cannot give, I will tell you. There are excellent medical aestheticians in Salisbury and beyond who do that work very well, and a referral conversation is always part of mine.

And I will never sell you a course up front. Come for one treatment, see how your skin responds, and we will plan the rest from there.

Booking from across Wiltshire and Hampshire

Eternal Glow Beauty is a private luxury salon in Amesbury, easily reached from Salisbury, Andover, Warminster and across the 25 areas we serve. The consultation that begins every appointment is the most important part of what I do — particularly for women navigating GLP-1 facial change, where the conversation matters as much as the treatment.

If you would like to talk it through informally before committing to anything, that is genuinely fine. Get in touch and we will start there. The right protocol only works if it is the right protocol for you — and that conversation is the place to start.

If you are also navigating perimenopausal or menopausal skin shifts alongside the weight loss — and many women in this demographic are — you may also want to read Menopause and Skin: Facials That Actually Help, which goes deeper into the hormonal layer of the same picture.
